  • support NAS owners in utilising their product to its full potential;
  • supply a platform for successful online collaboration between users as well as manufacturers;
  • build a strong and thriving user community around the different NAS products; and
  • provide a Single Point of Access for people requesting information on NAS products

In doing this we strive to always provide facts and remain independent and objective.

History

In August 2006, a guy called Mshapf bought his first Thecus N2100. As he needed to extend the functionality of the device, he created a few modules, including a module with SlimServer software. This was the beginning of a lot of new modules for the N2100. Within a very short periode of time, a number of new modules were appearing at different sites. Mshapf decided to create a simple webpage (September 2006) to keep track of all the new modules, but soon had to realize that maintaining this website would require way too much time. Instead he decided to install a Wiki on his website (October 2006), thus allowing everybody to contribute and maintain the vast amounts of new information and modules. This was the birth of the famous website, the Thecus Wiki.

In the beginning the Wiki mainly contained information on the Thecus N2100 model, but slowly other models began to appear on the Wiki as well. Especially the N5200 was quite popular and the number of pages on this model quickly increased. Soon other models followed, including the N4100 and N1200, and relatively soon all Thecus models were represented at the Wiki.

While the Thecus Wiki was popular it also had several problems and disadvantages. One of the main problems were the hosting provider being inflexible and unstable. For instance, due to software issues it was not possible to update and maintain the Wiki software with newest patches. Also, the Thecus Wiki frequently went offline due to problems at the hosting provider. As a consequence it was decided to change hosting provider and at the same time update the Wiki both in terms of functionality and design. As a part of this makeover the name was also changed to NASWebsite.com so the site could also apply to other NAS products besides the Thecus products. Why not give owners of other NAS products the same opportunities?
